Filming has begun in New Orleans for ‘Goons‘, a new horror film set in Louisiana, directed by Gerard McMurray, known for The First Purge. According to Deadline, Chloe Bailey (The Exorcism, “Swarm”) and Michael Rainey Jr. (Power) will star in the movie.

McMurray co-wrote the screenplay for Goons with Hodge K. Johnson. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the film is set against the eerie backdrop of Louisiana’s cane fields and plantations, which may provide clues from its title.

McMurray expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked demonstrates the power of Black storytellers working together.”

The film is fully financed and produced by Confluential Films under its new genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions, which focuses on “bold, elevated, culturally specific horror films from creators of color.” It is also produced in collaboration with McMurray’s Buppie Productions.

Tommy Oliver of Confluential Films/New Fear Unlocked Productions added, “I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are creating with this amazing team. I’m thrilled to launch New Fear Unlocked with such a talented director and his vision for this film.”
