The highly anticipated “Goosebumps” television series, a joint project between Disney+ and Hulu, is set to make its debut on October 13. The series’ full official trailer was unveiled earlier today.
This two-minute trailer is packed with nods to several classic “Goosebumps” stories, including “Welcome to Dead House,” “Say Cheese and Die!” and “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom.” Notably, the iconic Slappy doll makes an appearance. However, like the two live-action movies released in recent years, it appears that the series will not directly adapt any specific books.
The series is set to draw inspiration from five of the most popular middle-grade “Goosebumps” books: “Say Cheese and Die!”, “The Haunted Mask,” “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom,” “Go Eat Worms!” and “Night of the Living Dummy.” Produced by Disney Branded Television and Sony Pictures Television, the 10-part series will launch with an initial drop of five episodes, coinciding with Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” celebrations. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly. The first two episodes will also air on Freeform on October 13th as part of its “31 Nights of Halloween” programming.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages. We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.”
The new “Goosebumps” series delves into a world of mystery and suspense, following a group of five high school students as they embark on a dark and twisted journey to investigate the mysterious death of a teenager named Harold Biddle, which occurred three decades earlier. Along the way, they unearth dark secrets from their parents’ past.
“Goosebumps,” published by Scholastic, stands as one of the bestselling book series of all time, with over 400 million books in print in 32 languages.
The cast includes Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price.
Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman developed the series and serve as executive producers, joined by Hilary Winston, Neal H. Moritz, Iole Lucchese, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Caitlin Friedman, Erin O’Malley, and Kevin Murphy, among others. James Eagan and Nick Adams serve as co-executive producers.
