In the upcoming apocalyptic thriller “Foe,” the central couple faces more than just the usual challenges that come with a relationship. This cinematic adaptation of best-selling author Iain Reid’s novel, known for “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” amplifies marital struggles with an unsettling backdrop of impending apocalypse. Amazon Studios has released a new trailer for this thought-provoking sci-fi thriller.

Mark your calendars for the US theatrical release of “Foe” on October 6, 2023.

Starring Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal, and Aaron Pierre, “Foe” promises a twisty journey through apocalyptic marital turmoil. The image above provides a sneak peek of Ronan and Mescal as the central married couple.

The film is described as “a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their tranquil existence is disrupted when an unexpected stranger (Pierre) arrives at their doorstep with a startling proposal.”

Directed by Garth Davis and co-written by Davis and Reid, “Foe” is praised for its mesmerizing visuals and its continuous exploration of the essence of humanity, including the notion of artificial humanity. It brings a not-so-distant future to vivid life.

Produced by Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Davis, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning, the film boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Dawn Olmstead, David Levine, Robert Walak, Samantha Lang, and Reid himself.

“Foe” is Reid’s second novel, originally published in 2018. The story is described as “a haunting, philosophical puzzle of a novel, set in the near future. Junior and Henrietta live a comfortable, solitary life on their farm, far from the city lights, but in close quarters with each other. One day, a stranger from the city arrives with alarming news: Junior has been randomly selected to travel far away from the farm… very far away. The most unusual part? Arrangements have already been made so that when he leaves, Henrietta won’t have a chance to miss him, because she won’t be left alone—not even for a moment. Henrietta will have company. Familiar company.”

In anticipation of the Amazon Studios film, new editions of the book featuring its cover are set to release on October 3 from Scout Press in the US and Simon & Schuster Canada.
