Willem Dafoe revisits the haunting world of Nosferatu, transitioning from his role as Max Schreck in 2000’s “Shadow of the Vampire” to portray a human-turned-vampire hunter in Robert Eggers’ upcoming remake of Nosferatu.

Entertainment Weekly unveils a fresh image today, offering the inaugural glimpse of Dafoe’s character, Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, in the film.

Describing the character as “a deranged vampire hunter,” Eggers sets the stage for a thrilling reinterpretation of the classic tale.

Focus Features has set the release date for “Nosferatu” in theaters on Christmas, December 25, 2024.

The star-studded cast includes Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, and Lily-Rose Depp. Skarsgård takes on the role of Nosferatu/Count Orlok in the movie.

Joining the ensemble are Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kraven the Hunter”), Simon McBurney (“The Conjuring 2”), and Ralph Ineson (“The Witch”).

“Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ delves into the gothic tale of obsession between a tormented young woman in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire haunting her, unleashing unimaginable horror.”

Eggers directs and pens the script, also taking on producing duties alongside Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov, and John Graham.

In the distribution realm, Focus handles the U.S. release, while Universal Pictures International manages the international distribution.

The original 1922 version of Nosferatu was helmed by F.W. Murnau, while Werner Herzog crafted his own rendition in 1979.

The silent film from 1922 follows Count Orlok’s pursuit of a house in Germany and his captivation with the wife of a real-estate agent. An unofficial take on Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” its release nearly led to the destruction of all copies.
