Al Pacino and Dan Stevens will star in the upcoming exorcism horror film The Ritual, directed by David Midell and produced by XYZ Films. Variety reports that XYZ Films plans a U.S. theatrical release for the movie in 2025, and the film has already been sold out in most international markets.

‘The Ritual’ is based on a true story and centers on two priests with contrasting personal struggles: one is grappling with a crisis of faith (Stevens), while the other is dealing with a troubled past (Pacino). Together, they must overcome their differences to perform a series of harrowing exorcisms to save a young woman possessed by a demonic force.

The film is described as an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose possession and subsequent exorcisms are among the most thoroughly documented cases in American history.

The screenplay for The Ritual was written by David Midell and Enrico Natale.
