Just yesterday, it was revealed that Yorgos Lanthimos (known for “Poor Things”) will be directing an English-language remake of the Korean cult classic “Save the Green Planet!” with Ari Aster (of “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” fame) producing. Now, according to Variety, Emma Stone is in discussions to join the project.

Stone, who recently earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” would likely take on a supporting role in the film. This potential collaboration would reunite her with Lanthimos, with whom she previously worked on “The Favourite” in 2018.

The remake will be produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures, along with Ari Aster’s Square Peg and CJ ENM (formerly CJ Entertainment).

The original film, directed by Joon-hwan Jang, follows Byeong-gu, who becomes convinced that Earth is facing an imminent alien invasion. With the help of his loyal girlfriend, he kidnaps and tortures individuals he believes to be aliens in disguise, including corporate executives and politicians.

“Save the Green Planet!” is known for its unique blend of genres, combining elements of sci-fi, comedy, horror, and psychological thriller. Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Peg previously praised the film for its ability to seamlessly transition between suspense, humor, horror, and tragedy.

With Stone potentially joining the cast, anticipation for this intriguing remake continues to grow.
