Elizabeth Banks, the director of the character-driven thriller “Cocaine Bear,” which garnered attention and positive reviews upon release, has hinted at the possibility of a sequel. While the film wasn’t a massive box office hit, earning $89 million worldwide on a budget of around $30 to $35 million, it delighted audiences with its subversive and entertaining storyline. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Banks revealed her enthusiasm for the project and her willingness to embark on a “Cocaine Bear 2.”

During the interview, Banks shared her enjoyment of the first movie’s surprising and playful elements, which included casting decisions that caught audiences off guard, such as Margo Martindale’s unexpected role. When asked about the potential for a sequel, Banks responded positively, expressing her love for the fun and unconventional aspects of the film. She conveyed a desire to surprise and delight the audience again with a new installment.

“Cocaine Bear” is based on true events that occurred in Kentucky in 1985. The film’s narrative revolves around a bizarre group of individuals, including cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers, converging in a Georgia forest. Their paths intertwine with that of a 500-pound apex predator that has ingested an astounding amount of cocaine and embarks on a cocaine-fueled frenzy for more blow and blood.

Scripted by Jimmy Warden, the cinematic adaptation of this wild concept features a talented cast, including Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju, Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince, and newcomer Scott Seiss.

“Cocaine Bear” was produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Aditya Sood (Lord Miller), Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman (Brownstone Productions), and Brian Duffield. Robin Fisichella and Nikki Baida serve as executive producers.

While fans eagerly await the possibility of a “Cocaine Bear 2,” screenwriter Jimmy Warden is occupied with developing a Magic 8 Ball movie for Mattel Films.
