Eli Roth Shares Update on ‘Thanksgiving 2’; Filming Set to Start in Early 2025
Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving slasher introduced audiences to the masked killer John Carver last year, nearly two decades after the concept was first teased in a faux trailer as part of the Grindhouse double feature. Fans won’t have to wait as long for the next chapter, as Sony’s TriStar recently confirmed that Thanksgiving 2 is set for release in 2025.
Roth and Jeff Rendell will return to write the screenplay for the sequel, and Roth has shared an update on the project in a recent interview with Indiewire.
According to the report, Thanksgiving 2 is currently in “soft prep,” with plans to begin filming at the end of March 2025. Roth promises that the sequel will raise the stakes but remain “tight and lean,” noting that the limited budget helps keep the production focused and forces creative decisions. “There’s a lot of setup we did in the first one that we don’t have to do now. It can just be all payoff,” he explains.
Roth also hints at exciting new ideas for the sequel: “I’ve come up with stuff that is going to be a challenge… If I’ve come up with the stuff that I think will make the best kills, then I’m going to do it like I’m never going to make another movie again.”
Thanksgiving 2 will pick up where the first film left off, with both Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman expected to return. Verlaque portrayed Jessica, the final girl, while Hoffman played her father, Thomas Wright.
The original Thanksgiving follows a Thanksgiving-inspired killer who terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts, after a Black Friday riot leads to tragedy.
The cast of the first Thanksgiving movie included Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks (Walker), Milo Manheim (Zombies), Nell Verlaque (Big Shot), Gina Gershon (Chucky), Tim Dillon, and Rick Hoffman (Hostel). Stay tuned for more updates as Thanksgiving 2 continues to take shape.
