Eli Roth Expresses Interest in Directing Additional ‘Hostel’ and ‘Cabin Fever’ Films

Eli Roth recently returned to the realm of R-rated horror with the slasher film “Thanksgiving” last month, and news surfaced last week that he’s set to helm “Thanksgiving 2” in 2025.

This year’s holiday slasher expands on Roth’s well-received faux trailer from Grindhouse (2007), reigniting his enthusiasm for past projects.

During a recent interview with CinePop, Roth expressed a strong desire to revisit the worlds of both “Hostel” and “Cabin Fever.”

“Hostel has so much more potential. I’m eager to revisit Hostel at some point. And Cabin Fever too,” Roth shared. “They’re a part of me. They’re like my children.”

Feeling a sense of neglect towards these projects, Roth expressed a yearning to re-engage with them creatively. “I’ve kept them on the back burner for too long. I’d love to reconnect with them in some capacity. I have ideas. I’d direct it myself. I don’t want anyone else handling it,” he emphasized.

“Hostel,” released in 2005, depicted a world where the affluent could pay to torment and murder captives. Roth helmed “Hostel: Part II” in 2007, and while the franchise extended to a second sequel in 2011, directed by Scott Spiegel, Roth hasn’t directly helmed a “Hostel” movie in 16 years.

Regarding “Cabin Fever,” the 2002 horror film marked Roth’s introduction to the industry. It spawned two sequels: “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever” in 2009 and “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” in 2014, along with a peculiar remake in 2016. Notably, Ti West directed “Cabin Fever 2,” influencing his subsequent films.

It’s been 21 years since Roth’s direct involvement in a “Cabin Fever” film and 16 years since he directed a “Hostel” movie, making a potential return to either franchise a significant event.
