Vinegar Syndrome, known for preserving genre films, is venturing into original productions with “Eight Eyes,” a retro horror project co-produced with the team behind Shudder’s “The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs.” A new trailer released today offers a glimpse into the impending madness.
In “Eight Eyes,” a mysterious local disrupts a couple’s vacation in the former Yugoslavia, drawing them deeper into a web of psychic rituals.
The film, shot on 16mm, premiered earlier this year at Fantasia and tells the story of Cass and Gav, a couple attempting to mend their troubled marriage with a trip through former Yugoslavia. However, their encounter with the enigmatic local Saint Peter takes a sinister turn, leading to a nightmarish descent where supernatural forces threaten their lives.
Co-writer and director Austin Jennings, in his feature film debut, ambitiously crafted “Eight Eyes.” The film was shot entirely on location in Serbia and Macedonia, using 16mm Kodak film to draw inspiration from European genre cinema and American horror films of the 1970s. It aims to present a nightmarish blend of nostalgia and new shapes within the backdrop of the former Yugoslavia.
“Eight Eyes” stars Emily Sweet, Brad Thomas, and Bruno Veljanovski, with production by Not the Funeral Home (Executive Producers Justin Martell and Matt Manjourides).
As the film continues its festival circuit, there is no official release date yet. Stay tuned for further updates or visit the film’s official site for more information.
