“Don’t Look”: Janelle Monáe Set to Star in Universal Horror Film Written by Akela Cooper
Akela Cooper, known for her work on projects like “Malignant” and “The Nun 2,” has been tapped to adapt the screenplay for an upcoming Universal horror film titled “Don’t Look.” The movie is based on a short story written by Colin Bannon, whose previously unpublished work serves as the foundation for this mysterious project. Deadline reports that the film will feature Janelle Monáe in a starring role.
“Don’t Look” is shrouded in secrecy, with little known about the plot or storyline. Bannon’s original short story provides no hints, and the logline for the Universal feature remains undisclosed for now.
Bannon has been making waves in the industry, having recently struck a deal with Universal for another horror short story titled “Long Lost.” This adaptation, produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and others, is described as a psychological thriller in the vein of “What Lies Beneath” and “Rosemary’s Baby.”
Deadline highlights Bannon’s impressive track record, noting his record-setting seven scripts on the Black List and his successful sales of scripts like “Ultra” to Tri-Star Pictures and “First Ascent” to Netflix.
In another collaboration, Scott Glassgold, Bannon’s producing partner, joins forces with Akela Cooper on the upcoming feature “It’s Over,” based on an unpublished short story by Jack Follman. Described as a blend of horror, humor, and social commentary, this project promises to deliver a unique cinematic experience.
Janelle Monáe, known for her versatile performances, is in talks to not only star in but also produce “Don’t Look” through her production company, Wondaland Pictures, as part of her first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Scott Glassgold’s Ground Control Entertainment is also attached to produce.
As fans eagerly await further details, the anticipation for “Don’t Look” continues to build. Stay tuned for updates as the project develops.
