Directors of ‘Talk to Me’ Tempted by the Prospect of a Sequel
A24’s theatrical release of the Australian horror film “Talk to Me” over the past weekend exceeded all expectations, opening with a remarkable $10 million at the box office. The movie, which reportedly had a budget of $4.5 million, garnered significant attention and positive reviews, potentially paving the way for a sequel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, directors Danny and Michael Philippou, known for their popular YouTube channel RackaRacka with over 6 million subscribers, expressed their interest in creating a sequel if the opportunity arises.
During the interview, Danny mentioned his internal struggle between the desire to leave the story as it is and the eagerness to explore more in a potential sequel. He has vivid ideas for captivating set pieces that he’d love to bring to life. If A24 were to approach them about a sequel, Danny admitted he wouldn’t be able to resist, as he’s genuinely passionate about the prospect.
Michael raised the question of whether the sequel should continue with Mia and the existing characters or explore a different part of the world. While a debate, Danny finds both options equally exciting and appealing to work on.
The Philippou brothers’ interest in a “Talk to Me” sequel is not surprising, given their extensive work on the concept’s mythology while crafting the first movie.
“Talk to Me” revolves around a group of friends who stumble upon a way to summon spirits using an embalmed hand, leading them into a thrilling world of supernatural experiences. The film features Sophia Wilde, Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Djanji, and Zoe Terakes.
While the future of a “Talk to Me” sequel remains uncertain, fans can look forward to the Philippou brothers’ involvement in a new film adaptation of the popular video game franchise “Street Fighter.”
