Leone’s aim would be to recapture the fear factor that he believes has dwindled as the series progressed, stating, “You just start getting too comfortable with these villains and you need to be scared of them again.”

Leone goes on to reveal that he has engaged in discussions with industry executives overseeing the Friday the 13th franchise. However, he acknowledges that he may still be too much of an under-the-radar talent in Hollywood for them to consider him as a director for such a high-profile project.

Regarding the current status of the Friday the 13th franchise, it’s been mired in legal complications for years. Still, there is a glimmer of hope as Jason Voorhees is slated to make a comeback in a forthcoming television series titled “Crystal Lake,” a collaborative effort between Peacock, A24, and Bryan Fuller of “Hannibal” fame. This “expanded prequel” series is set to feature both Jason and his mother, Mrs. Voorhees, and is expected to make its chilling debut sometime next year.

As for the film aspect of the Friday the 13th franchise, it currently remains dormant. However, the prospect of Damien Leone taking the helm for a Friday the 13th movie is a tantalizing one.
