David F. Sandberg’s ‘Until Dawn’ Movie Concludes Filming Over the Weekend
Following the release of the remake, Supermassive Games’ popular video game ‘Until Dawn‘ is being adapted into a horror film directed by David F. Sandberg (‘Lights Out’, ‘Annabelle: Creation’, ‘Shazam’). Filming recently wrapped over the weekend.
“We made it until dawn!” Sandberg shared on Instagram, announcing, “That’s a wrap on #UntilDawnMovie.”
In the upcoming film, Ella Rubin (‘The Idea of You’), Michael Cimino (‘Never Have I Ever’), Ji-young Yoo (‘Expats’), and Odessa A’zion (‘Hulu’s Hellraiser’) will star. Peter Stormare, who appeared in the ‘Until Dawn’ video game, will reprise his role, while Maia Mitchell and Belmont Cameli will also feature in the cast.
The original draft was written by Blair Butler (‘The Invitation’), with Gary Dauberman (‘Salem’s Lot’) contributing to the script. The film is described as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre.”
‘Until Dawn’ follows a group of eight teenagers who decide to spend a night in a cabin on the fictional Blackwood Mountain, exactly one year after two girls—twin sisters of one of the group members—disappeared. Shortly after their arrival, the friends find themselves targeted by a psychopath and must survive until sunrise.
In the game, players alternate between the eight characters, making crucial decisions that significantly impact the story’s outcome, resulting in hundreds of different scenarios.
The film is being produced by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions, with Dauberman, Sandberg, and Lotta Losten, along with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan serving as producers.
The success of ‘Until Dawn’ led Supermassive Games to create ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology’, a series of horror video games with a similar interactive format. Supermassive is also known for the slasher game ‘The Quarry’.
