David Bruckner Set to Write and Direct Remake of Horror Cult Classic ‘The Blob’
Warner Bros. Discovery is gearing up for a fresh rendition of “The Blob,” and according to The Wrap’s recent report, David Bruckner (known for works like “V/H/S,” “Southbound,” “The Ritual,” “The Night House,” and “Hellraiser”) is set to both script and direct this reimagined horror tale.
While specifics about the reimagined storyline remain tightly guarded, the original 1958 version of “The Blob” depicted an amorphous extraterrestrial entity that invades a rural Pennsylvania town, consuming anyone it encounters. This alien being, a continually expanding mass of red, gelatinous substance, grows larger as it feeds, possessing the strength to draw its human victims into its ominous form from all angles.
The production involves David Goyer and Keith Levine of Phantom Four as producers for Bruckner’s unique interpretation of “The Blob,” accompanied by Judith Harris as the executive producer.
Originally introduced in the Steve McQueen-starring horror classic, “The Blob” has had its history revisited with Chuck Russell’s gory remake in 1988, followed by a sequel titled “Beware! The Blob” in 1972.
Over the years, various filmmakers, including Simon West and Rob Zombie, were linked to potential new renditions of “The Blob,” stirring anticipation among fans. Concerns have lingered about modern adaptations leaning heavily on CGI effects instead of practical ones. However, Bruckner’s track record, notably seen in “Hellraiser” on Hulu, which showcased practical effects for the classic Cenobite designs, and “The Ritual,” featuring impressive movie monsters, signals promising craftsmanship.
As updates on Bruckner’s vision for “The Blob” emerge, fans eagerly await further details on this intriguing remake.
