“Cruel Summer” Gets Axed by Freeform Following Two Seasons
Freeform has decided not to renew the gripping ’90s thriller series “Cruel Summer” for a third season, as reported by THR. Alongside this decision, the network has also chosen to conclude “Good Trouble” after five seasons.
The decision was reportedly driven by Freeform executives, who aimed to bring back both shows. However, the ratings for “Good Trouble” and “Cruel Summer” did not match the expected levels to justify their continuation.
The first season of “Cruel Summer” unfolded across three summers in the ’90s, revolving around the mysterious disappearance of a popular teenager. Simultaneously, another girl undergoes a striking transformation from an outsider to a revered figure, later facing widespread public disdain.
Its second season delved into the rollercoaster dynamics of a fervent teenage friendship. Spanning three distinct timelines around Y2K, the narrative unraveled the early bonds between Megan, Isabella, and Luke, exploring their evolving relationships, a blossoming love triangle, and a life-altering mystery.
Each season of “Cruel Summer” presented a new cast and characters but continued its signature storytelling style across multiple timelines.
Both seasons of “Cruel Summer” are available for streaming on Hulu.
