Christmas Slasher ‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’ by the Writer of ‘Freaky’ and Director of ‘Tragedy Girls’ Coming This November
Acclaimed writer Michael Kennedy, known for his work on “Freaky,” and director Tyler MacIntyre, the creative force behind “Tragedy Girls,” are teaming up to bring audiences a spine-tingling holiday treat with their upcoming Christmas slasher, “It’s a Wonderful Knife.” Exciting news has emerged as RLJE Films and Shudder have acquired the rights to this eagerly awaited film. According to Deadline, “It’s a Wonderful Knife” will make its grand entrance exclusively in U.S. theaters on November 10, with subsequent availability for streaming on Shudder at a later date.
To heighten the anticipation, “It’s a Wonderful Knife” is set to premiere at Beyond Fest on October 8, promising to send chills down the spines of horror enthusiasts.
The film has been intriguingly described as a mashup of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Scream,” a blending of heartwarming holiday nostalgia with the adrenaline-pumping thrills of a slasher flick.
The story unfolds in the picturesque town of Angel Falls, where, a year after saving her community from a deranged killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers finds herself trapped in a less-than-wonderful existence. Frustrated and disheartened, she wishes she had never been born, inadvertently propelling herself into a nightmarish parallel universe. In this bleak reality, Winnie realizes that without her presence, things have taken a gruesome turn for the worse. As the killer resurfaces, she must join forces with the town’s misfit to unmask the murderer and return to her own reality.
Leading the cast is Jane Widdop (“Yellowjackets”) as the tenacious ‘Winnie Carruthers,’ with Joel McHale (“Community”) stepping into the role of Winnie’s father, ‘David,’ and Justin Long (“Barbarian”) portraying the enigmatic town figure, ‘Mr. Waters.’ The film also features the talents of Katharine Isabelle (“Ginger Snaps”), Jess McLeod (“One of Us Is Lying”), and Cassandra Naud (“Influencer”).
Notably, Michael Kennedy not only penned the suspenseful script but also serves as a producer on the project.
Mark Ward, Chief Acquisitions Officer at RLJE Films, expressed excitement about the release, saying, “We’re excited to release ‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’ and once again work with its amazing cast and filmmakers. Over the last few years, we’ve been fortunate to have released horror/holiday films that have been embraced by audiences, and we believe this one is no exception.”
