Director Leigh Whannell, known for ‘The Invisible Man’, is diving back into the world of Universal Monsters with his upcoming film ‘Wolf Man‘, slated for release on January 17, 2025. Today, Universal and Blumhouse have released a brief teaser trailer, giving us a tantalizing first look at Whannell’s latest take on the classic creature.

The teaser, though not revealing the Wolf Man’s design, effectively sets a chilling tone for the film. It arrives amidst a viral stir caused by a Halloween Horror Nights costume inspired by the movie, which has stirred up some debate. Despite the costume’s mixed reception, the teaser promises a fresh and intense experience in the werewolf genre.

In Wolf Man, Christopher Abbott (Golden Globe nominee for Poor Things and It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father who inherits a secluded family home in rural Oregon after his father mysteriously disappears. With his marriage to high-powered wife Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner, known for Ozark and Inventing Anna) strained, Blake convinces her and their young daughter, Ginger, to visit the property.

As the family arrives at the farmhouse under the cover of night, they are attacked by an unseen predator. Trapped inside as the creature prowls outside, the family’s situation grows more dire. As Blake’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, Charlotte must confront the possibility that the real danger may lie within their own home.

The film also features Sam Jaeger (The Handmaid’s Tale), Ben Prendergast (The Sojourn Audio Drama), and Benedict Hardie (The Invisible Man).

This project will mark Whannell’s second foray into monster movies and his fourth collaboration with Blumhouse Productions, following The Invisible Man, Upgrade, and Insidious: Chapter 3. The screenplay is crafted by Leigh Whannell & Corbett Tuck, alongside Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo (Dumb Money), with Jason Blum producing. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell himself serve as executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
