Caleb Landry Jones Cast as Dracula in Luc Besson’s Upcoming Origin Story Film
The legend of Count Dracula has been a timeless staple in cinema, with various interpretations gracing the screen over the years, ranging from Bela Lugosi’s iconic portrayal to Nicolas Cage’s unique rendition in Renfield.
Exploring the origins of the Dracula character has been a recurring theme in film, notably highlighted in Gary Shore’s 2014 movie Dracula Untold. Now, according to THR, this origin story is set to be revisited once again.
Caleb Landry Jones, known for his role in Antiviral, is set to lead an untitled Dracula origin story helmed by director Luc Besson, famous for The Fifth Element. Described as a “big budgeted film,” this retelling of Bram Stoker’s classic Gothic tale will see Landry-Jones portraying the Transylvanian Count-turned-vampire.
The Hollywood Reporter provides insight into the plot, indicating that the movie will delve into the early life of Dracula and his relationship with his wife. Additionally, Christoph Waltz, renowned for his performance in Django Unchained, is reportedly in talks to join the cast.
The upcoming Dracula film follows in the wake of last year’s The Last Voyage of the Demeter, which depicted a period piece horror narrative surrounding the infamous character. Despite its cinematic journey, the film garnered modest box office returns, totaling just $21 million.
