“Joseph Quinn, known for his role in ‘Stranger Things,’ continues to soar in popularity, captivating audiences as Eddie Munson. Following his success, Quinn is set to appear in the spinoff movie ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ and has now landed a leading role in the upcoming horror film ‘Relapse.’
According to Variety, ‘Relapse’ marks the directorial debut of renowned author Bret Easton Ellis, best known for his novel ‘American Psycho.’ Described as an ‘elevated horror film,’ the script for ‘Relapse’ is penned by Ellis himself.
In the film, Joseph Quinn portrays Matt Cullen, a character who seeks rehabilitation after a traumatic experience at a drug-fueled party. However, as Matt tries to rebuild his life at his parents’ mansion in Los Angeles, he becomes increasingly disturbed by unsettling occurrences, exacerbated by his own instability and the pervasive influence of social media.
The official synopsis reveals, ‘Fueled by his inner turmoil and the omnipresence of social networking, Matt’s grip on reality loosens, sabotaging his path to recovery. As he succumbs to his old habits, a sinister force from his past resurfaces, manifesting as a menacing entity that has haunted him since his youth. With his therapist’s assistance, Matt confronts the possibility that the true horror may lie within his own mind.’
Commenting on his directorial debut, Bret Easton Ellis expressed his affinity for horror, citing influences from classic films of the 1970s and his own horror novel, ‘Lunar Park,’ inspired by Stephen King’s work. He described ‘Relapse’ as a straightforward yet impactful project, perfectly suited for his inaugural foray into directing.
