Blumhouse’s ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Sequel Moves to May 2025
Blumhouse wasted no time in greenlighting the sequel to M3GAN following the success of its predecessor, which grossed an impressive $180 million in 2022. However, fans will have to wait a little longer than anticipated for the return of the chilling doll.
Initially slated for a theatrical debut on January 17, 2025, the follow-up installment, M3GAN 2.0, has been rescheduled to hit screens on May 16, 2025, courtesy of Blumhouse and Universal.
The upcoming sequel sees Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles, with Akela Cooper, known for her work on “Malignant” and the original “M3GAN,” returning to pen the script. Additionally, James Wan is set to produce.
Warning: spoilers ahead! While the first film concluded with the destruction of the eponymous doll, fans of the horror genre understand that malevolent dolls are notoriously resilient, as seen in franchises like “Child’s Play.”
Expect more updates on M3GAN 2.0 as details emerge.
M3GAN presents a groundbreaking achievement in artificial intelligence: a lifelike doll programmed to serve as a child’s ultimate companion and a parent’s invaluable assistant. Crafted by the brilliant roboticist Gemma, portrayed by Allison Williams (“Get Out”), M3GAN possesses the ability to listen, observe, and adapt, evolving into a friend, mentor, playmate, and guardian for the child she bonds with.
When Gemma unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her 8-year-old niece, Cady, portrayed by Violet McGraw (“The Haunting of Hill House”), she finds herself overwhelmed and unprepared for parenthood. Faced with mounting pressure at work, Gemma makes the decision to introduce her M3GAN prototype to Cady in a bid to address both her personal and professional challenges. Little does she know, this choice will unleash unimaginable consequences.
