Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster Unite for a Thrilling Horror Powerhouse
Nearly a year after its initial announcement, the deal has finally been sealed. Jason Blum took to Twitter to declare, “Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have officially joined forces.”
This merging brings together the talents of James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, uniting them under a single entity. Described earlier as a “mega house of chills and thrills,” the combined company has inked a first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
According to THR, this partnership will maintain the distinct identities of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, preserving their creative independence. The ownership structure will be divided among Blum, the majority owner, Wan, and Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal.
Variety’s report from November 2022 suggested that Atomic Monster aims to leverage Blumhouse’s existing infrastructure to expand its presence in film, television, and new content domains. The goal of this alliance is to boost the output from both sides and explore avenues like horror-related games, live entertainment, and audio.
Additionally, Variety highlighted Blum’s ambition to elevate Blumhouse’s annual horror movie releases in theaters to eight from the previous three or four. Moreover, he intends to create a lineup of horror films for Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform. Blumhouse also has a history of producing television series.
Excitement builds for this significant partnership, promising increased collaboration and amplified horror experiences. Blumhouse and Wan’s production company have previously teamed up on various horror projects, with their co-produced film, Night Swim, set for release in theaters this upcoming Friday.
