After being put on hold due to the writers’ strike, the Netflix adaptation of BioShock is back in motion, according to writer Michael Green.

In an interview with Collider, Green said that he’s been meeting regularly with director Francis Lawrence and his team to refine the film’s draft. He also said that he’s “optimistic” about the adaptation, but couldn’t reveal much else.

“Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike,” Green said. “It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”

The BioShock Netflix adaptation was announced last August, with Netflix and BioShock publisher Take-Two Interactive stating that they had plans to develop “a potential cinematic universe” based around the franchise. No release date has been announced yet.

The BioShock franchise has seen three main entries, with the last game, BioShock Infinite, being released in 2013. A fourth game is currently in development at Cloud Chamber.

Fans of the BioShock franchise rejoice! The Netflix adaptation is back on track, and with a talented writer and director attached, it has the potential to be something special.
