The internet stirred with fervor at the release of the initial images featuring Bill Skarsgård (known for his role in “IT”) as Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s remake of “The Crow” a couple of weeks ago. Even the original movie’s director, Alex Proyas, couldn’t resist weighing in, poking fun at Draven’s “bad hair day.” However, it’s premature to pass judgment on a film based solely on a few random images. That’s where official trailers come in.

Bill Skarsgård steps into the iconic shoes of Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s fresh take on “The Crow,” and this morning, the studio unveiled the full official trailer for the upcoming movie.

Scheduled for release in theaters on June 7, the reboot of “The Crow” promises a new interpretation of the classic tale, unapologetically embracing its bloody violence.

Skarsgård expressed his enthusiasm for the role in a recent statement, saying, “I was a huge fan of the original film growing up as a kid and was so honored to take on the role of Eric Draven. But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before. Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. I felt a responsibility to Eric’s story and endeavored to stay true to the spirit of the source material; I can’t wait for the world to see the film, and hope it resonates with audiences as strongly as it did with those of us involved.”

Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film stars Skarsgård as Eric Draven, with FKA Twigs in a co-starring role. Joining them are Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger.

In this new adaptation, “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

Lionsgate’s Executive VP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Charlotte Koh, commented, “We appreciate what The Crow character and original movie mean to legions of fans and believe this new film will offer audiences an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of its emotional power and mythology.”

The producers added, “The original film left an indelible mark on our culture that lives on. We are thrilled to bring a new adaptation for today’s audiences that respects this legacy.”

Zach Baylin and Will Schneider penned the script for the new adaptation, based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel that inspired the previous film franchise.

Producers on this fresh reimagining include Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, John Jencks, and Edward R. Pressman.

In the 1994 movie starring the late Brandon Lee, Eric Draven’s fiancée is killed alongside Draven, setting the film’s revenge storyline into motion, spawning a handful of sequels.
