“Beast of War”: Well Go USA Acquires ‘Wyrmwood’ Director’s World War II Shark Film
From the creative mind behind “Wyrmwood,” writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner, comes a gripping shark attack survival film titled “Beast of War.” Variety reports that this shark horror movie has secured distribution deals with Signature Entertainment for the U.K. and Ireland, and Well Go USA for North America.
Loosely based on real-life events during World War II, “Beast of War” follows a warship carrying Australian soldiers across the Timor Sea to the frontlines. However, their journey takes a terrifying turn when Japanese fighter jets unleash chaos, turning the ocean into a battlefield. As soldiers cling to makeshift rafts amidst the wreckage, they face a new threat – an apex predator, a great white shark drawn to the scent of blood in the water.
Practical creature effects for the film will be crafted by CreatureNFX’s director, Paul Trefry, known for his work on projects like “Alien: Covenant” and “Unbroken.”
Cornerstone is overseeing worldwide sales for the feature.
But “Beast of War” isn’t the only horror project on Roache-Turner’s slate. The filmmaker is also gearing up for “Sting,” another practical effects-driven horror film set to release this April, also through Well Go USA.
Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder from Cornerstone express their excitement about collaborating with Roache-Turner again, praising his kinetic filmmaking style and dedication to the genre.
Produced by Bronte Pictures’ Blake Northfield and Pictures in Paradise’s Chris Brown, “Beast of War” is set to commence production in 2024 in Australia and Malta, with pre-production already underway.
Stay tuned for further updates on this thrilling shark movie as they become available.
