Angelina Jolie Set to Star in ‘Maleficent 3,’ Disney’s Third Live-Action Franchise Installment

Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of the delightfully wicked Maleficent in Disney’s live-action adaptation in 2014 was a perfect fit, shaping the narrative around the iconic villain and offering a glimpse into her sympathetic side. The film struck gold at the box office, raking in nearly $800 million globally and paving the way for a sequel shortly after.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” released in 2019, continued Jolie’s Maleficent saga. Despite amassing just under $500 million in its worldwide box office run, the film fell short of its nearly $200 million production budget. Nonetheless, it seems a third installment of Maleficent is on the horizon.

A recent profile piece in The Wall Street Journal centered on Angelina Jolie confirmed her involvement in an upcoming third Maleficent movie.

The publication stated, “[Jolie] is signed on to act in several more [movies], including a third Maleficent.”

The sequel, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” delved deeper into Maleficent’s story, picking up years after the original film. Audiences witnessed the events that shaped Disney’s notorious villain and drove her to cast a curse upon Princess Aurora. The sequel continued exploring the intricate bond between the horned fairy and the future queen, as they forged new alliances and confronted fresh adversaries in their quest to safeguard the moors and its magical inhabitants.

While Robert Stromberg directed the first Maleficent installment, Joachim Rønning helmed “Mistress of Evil.” As of now, there’s no word on who will be directing the highly anticipated third chapter.
