Amandla Stenberg’s Horror Romance ‘My Animal’ Receives “R” Rating for “Nudity” and “Violence”
Paramount’s acquisition of the horror film “My Animal,” starring Amandla Stenberg (known for “Bodies Bodies Bodies”), has been generating buzz since its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Now, the film has received an official “R” rating this week for “Language throughout, sexual content, nudity, some drug use, and violence.”
Making her feature debut, director Jacqueline Castel helms “My Animal,” a unique genre-bender that blends horror, romance, and drama into a captivating coming-of-age tale. Amandla Stenberg stars alongside Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Stephen Mchattie, Heidi Von Palleske, Cory Lipman, and Joe Apollonio.
The story follows Heather, a teenage goalie who dreams of playing on her small northern town’s hockey team. In the midst of her struggles with an alcoholic mother, hidden sexual orientation, and a haunting familial curse that transforms her into a feral wolf under the full moon, Heather meets and falls in love with Jonny, an alluring yet tormented figure skater. As their secret romance blossoms, it collides with the conservative norms of their community, leading to a night of personal transformation fueled by passion and violence.
