Alexandre Aja to Return as Director for ‘Crawl 2’
Released in 2019, Alexandre Aja‘s Crawl pitted Kaya Scodelario against a devastating category 5 hurricane and a swarm of hungry alligators, delivering a gripping blend of action and horror that resonated with audiences. On a $13 million budget, the film raked in over $91 million worldwide, sparking immediate talks of a sequel.
So, what’s new with Crawl 2? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is “deep in development” on the sequel, with Aja set to return as director. Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) are on board as writers.
Sources reveal that Crawl 2 will introduce a new cast and shift the setting to the urban dangers of New York City.
The film’s producers will include Aja and Sam Raimi, who also produced the original Crawl.
In the first film, Haley (Kaya Scodelario) defies evacuation orders during a massive hurricane to search for her missing father (Barry Pepper). When she finds him severely injured in the crawl space of their home, the pair become trapped by rising floodwaters. As they struggle to escape the storm, they realize that the flooding is just one of their many dangers.
Aja has solidified his reputation as a horror expert with films such as High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, and Crawl.
