A24 Teams Up with Hideo Kojima for ‘Death Stranding’ Movie Adaptation
Around a year ago, news broke that Hideo Kojima, the mind behind the acclaimed game “Death Stranding,” would be bringing his creation to the big screen. This endeavor was initially in partnership with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios. Now, A24 has joined forces with Kojima’s Kojima Productions to contribute to the development of the “Death Stranding” adaptation.
A24 took the opportunity to make the announcement themselves through a post on X. As a commemoration, they’ve unveiled a series of new shirts featuring the A24 logo styled in the theme of “Death Stranding.”
In response to this collaboration, Kojima expressed his thoughts in a press release, stating: “A24 emerged around a decade ago, and their impact on the industry is truly unique; they stand apart. The films they bring to the world are not only of exceptional quality but also incredibly innovative. Their creations have captivated me and even influenced my own work. Their pioneering storytelling approach aligns well with what Kojima Productions has been cultivating for the past eight years. Now, we are embarking on creating a ‘Death Stranding’ movie together.”
He continued, “There’s an abundance of ‘game adaptation films’ out there, but our vision isn’t merely a direct translation of the game. Our aim is for our audience to encompass not only fans of the games but also anyone who appreciates cinema. We’re constructing a ‘Death Stranding’ universe that’s entirely unprecedented, made possible only through the medium of film—it’s an entirely new creation.”
Since its debut on the PlayStation 4 in 2019, “Death Stranding” has sold an impressive 10 million copies across PlayStation and PC, earning numerous accolades. With a star-studded cast including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley, the narrative revolves around courier Sam Porter Bridges (played by Reedus) on a mission to deliver hope to humanity by linking the last survivors of a devastated America.
In other recent news, Kojima announced his latest project last week—a collaboration with Jordan Peele for Xbox called “OD,” featuring Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.
