Since Steven Spielberg revolutionized the film industry with “Jaws” in the 1970s, the shark attack horror genre has seen numerous entries flood the market. However, the sad reality is that many of these films fail to make a lasting impact. While standout movies like “Deep Blue Sea” and “The Shallows” have garnered praise, they are overshadowed by countless imitators that have diluted the subgenre’s quality.

Yet, every so often, a gem emerges. Netflix may have stumbled upon such a treasure with “Under Paris,” a shark attack horror film helmed by French filmmaker Xavier Gens.

Fresh from the release of the action-packed “Mayhem,” Xavier Gens, known for his work on “Frontiers” and “Cold Skin,” returns with “Under Paris,” set to premiere on Netflix on June 5. The streaming platform has just unveiled the official trailer, teasing audiences with the promise of terror lurking beneath the surface of the City of Lights.

In the vein of “Jaws,” a joyous celebration transforms into a nightmare when a ravenous shark infiltrates the waters of Paris, setting the stage for a gripping battle between predator and prey.

In “Under Paris,” slated to stream this June, we follow Sophia, a brilliant scientist who discovers the presence of a large shark lurking in the depths of the river. To prevent catastrophe, Sophia teams up with Mika, a young environmental activist, and Adil, the Seine river police commander, in a race against time to avert disaster in the heart of the city.

Starring Bérénice Bejo and Nassim Lyes, “Under Paris” promises to deliver pulse-pounding thrills and spine-chilling suspense as it unleashes its aquatic terror on Netflix audiences worldwide. Prepare to dive into the depths of fear when “Under Paris” swims onto screens this June 5.
