‘A Head Full of Ghosts’ Taps ‘Goodnight Mommy’ and ‘The Lodge’ Duo for Directing Duties
Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the dynamic duo behind acclaimed films like “The Lodge” and “Goodnight Mommy,” continue to make waves in the film industry. Following their latest project, “The Devil’s Bath,” the pair are now set to direct an adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s renowned novel, “A Head Full of Ghosts,” as reported by Variety.
The horror film will be both adapted and directed by Franz and Fiala, with production helmed by none other than Robert Downey Jr.
“A Head Full Of Ghosts” delves into the chilling tale of a young woman recounting to a journalist the harrowing events that tore her family apart two decades earlier due to her teenage sister’s mysterious affliction.
The story unfolds around the Barretts, a seemingly ordinary suburban New England family whose lives are shattered when their teenage daughter exhibits signs of acute schizophrenia, thrusting them into the spotlight of a reality show called “The Possession.” Years later, Merry, the sister, confronts her family’s haunting past as a journalist investigates and unearths the true nature of evil.
Originally published in 2015, “A Head Full of Ghosts” has seen various directors attached to its adaptation, including Osgood Perkins and Scott Cooper. The project gained traction in 2020 with Cross Creek, Team Downey, and The Allegiance Theater, with STX slated to distribute in the U.S. and U.K., and Margaret Qualley set to star.
Tremblay, known for his bestselling novel “The Cabin at the End of the World,” is a master of suspenseful storytelling.
“A Head Full of Ghosts” is produced by Team Downey and The Allegiance Theater, with Fifth Season financing development and production. Producers include Daniel Dubiecki and Lara Alameddine from The Allegiance Theater, Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr. for Team Downey, and David Gambino.
As developments unfold for “A Head Full of Ghosts,” fans can stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, “The Devil’s Bath” is set to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
