Sony has dropped the brand-new official trailer for 28 Years Later, giving fans a first look at Danny Boyle’s return to the director’s chair for the sequel to both the cult classic 28 Days Later and its follow-up, 28 Weeks Later. Watch the chilling trailer below!
The sequel, nearly two decades in the making, sees Boyle reuniting with 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland (also known for Ex Machina and Annihilation). The duo is set to revive the post-apocalyptic world of the infamous “rage virus” for the next chapter in the story.
Set for release on June 20, 2025, 28 Years Later will kick off a new trilogy of infection-driven horror. Fans can also look forward to the second installment, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is slated for release on January 16, 2026, and will be directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
The plot of 28 Years Later picks up nearly three decades after the virus wreaked havoc in the UK. The country is still under a strict quarantine, but some survivors have managed to carve out a life in the midst of chaos. A group of these survivors lives on a small island, cut off from the mainland by a heavily defended causeway. When one of them embarks on a dangerous mission into the heart of the infected mainland, he uncovers horrifying new mutations—both in the infected and in the human survivors left behind.
The star-studded cast of 28 Years Later includes Jack O’Connell (Amy Winehouse: Back to Black), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Alone in the Dark), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Alfie Williams (His Dark Materials), and Ralph Fiennes (The Menu).
