As we approach the onset of October, the horror genre is gearing up for a thrilling wave of new releases in the coming weeks. However, before we dive into October’s spine-chilling offerings, we still have two weeks of September left, and this week, we’re treated to some new horror movies.

Here’s a roundup of all the new horror films set to hit screens from September 18 to September 24, 2023!

“Slotherhouse”: After a limited theatrical release last month, director Matthew Goodhue’s endearing killer sloth slasher comedy, “Slotherhouse,” is now available on various Video on Demand (VOD) platforms. The movie revolves around college senior Emily Young, who unwittingly brings an adorable yet murderous sloth onto her campus. What was meant to be an unforgettable senior year takes a dark turn as mysterious deaths start occurring in the sorority house. Starring Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Sutter Nolan, Grace Patterson, Milica Vrzić, Annamaria Serda, Rudi Rok, Tiff Stevenson, and Stefan Kapičić.

“Beaten to Death”: The relatively new genre label, Welcome Villain Films, made a strong debut this year with “Malum” and returns with the gruesome Australian horror movie, “Beaten to Death.” The film is now available on various VOD platforms and tells the story of Jack, who makes a desperate choice leading him down a brutal path of violence, confronting both human adversaries and his own inner demons. Directed by Sam Curtain, co-written with Benjamin Jung-Clarke, and starring Thomas Roach, David Tracy, Justan Wagner, and Nicole Tudor.

“American Horror Story: Delicate – Part One”: FX’s popular horror anthology series, “American Horror Story,” returns to the small screen with “Delicate – Part One.” This new season features Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, and Cara Delevingne, among others, in a storyline centered around actress Anna Victoria Alcott, who, after multiple IVF failures, becomes convinced that something sinister is targeting her and her quest for motherhood. Halley Feiffer takes on the role of showrunner for Season 12.

“Shaky Shivers”: Actor Sung Kang makes his directorial debut with “Shaky Shivers,” a film that combines frights and humor, bringing campy horror back to the summer camp setting. The movie will have a nationwide theatrical release on September 21. It follows Lucy, who believes she’s been bitten by a mysterious creature and will soon transform into a werewolf. Joined by her friend Karen, they embark on a wild adventure filled with supernatural encounters. Starring Brooke Markham and VyVy Nguyen.

“It Lives Inside”: Bishal Dutta‘s horror movie, “It Lives Inside,” is set to hit theaters on September 22, courtesy of NEON. The film has garnered an impressive 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “It Lives Inside” follows Sam, who, in her quest to fit in at school, rejects her Indian heritage, only to be confronted by a mythological demonic spirit attached to her former best friend. The movie stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, and Betty Gabriel. The story draws from Indian demonic legends and a personal family tale from Dutta’s own background.

“No One Will Save You”: Finally, Hulu brings us the action-packed alien invasion horror film “No One Will Save You,” available for streaming exclusively on September 22. Directed and written by Brian Duffield, known for his work on “Underwater” and “Love & Monsters,” the movie introduces Brynn Adams, played by Kaitlyn Dever, a talented young woman alienated from her community. When otherworldly intruders disrupt her peaceful life, Brynn must confront her heritage and face off against extraterrestrial beings that threaten her future. The film features a compelling score by composer Joseph Trapanese and is produced by Tim White, Trevor White, Allan Mandelbaum, with executive production credits going to Kaitlyn Dever and Joshua Throne.
