Stewart Thorndike, the writer/director known for the 2014 film “Lyle,” which offered a contemporary twist on “Rosemary’s Baby,” is back with his latest horror exploration of motherhood in “Bad Things.” This time, the filmmaker draws inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s iconic masterpiece, “The Shining.” A gripping new trailer gives a glimpse of Gayle Rankin’s remarkable portrayal of Jack Torrance in this upcoming psychological thriller.

Set in a snowy hotel during a weekend getaway with friends, “Bad Things” takes a chilling turn as the psychological thriller plunges into a nightmarish descent. The film is slated to premiere on Shudder and AMC+ on Friday, August 18th, 2023.

The story revolves around Ruthie Nodd (played by Gayle Rankin), who inherits the hotel from her grandmother. However, a haunting past threatens to resurface, pushing her to sell the hotel and never look back. Yet, her partner Cal (Hari Nef) insists on reviving the establishment to its former glory, leading them to the hotel for the weekend. Joining them are their amiable friend Maddie (Rad Pereira) and enigmatic grifter Fran (Annabelle Dexter-Jones), whose alluring but unstable presence creates tension between the couple. As the friends immerse themselves in the hotel’s enigmatic allure, their bonds begin to unravel, and their actions take a dark and sinister turn.

The cast includes notable talents like Gayle Rankin (“Glow”), Hari Nef (“Barbie”), Annabelle Dexter-Jones (“Succession”), Rad Pereira (“Betty”), Jared Abrahamson (“Ramy”), and Molly Ringwald (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”).

The film is skillfully produced by Lizzie Shapiro and Lexi Tannenholtz, with a lineup of esteemed executive producers, including David Harari, Caroline Kaplan, and George Rush of PCG Pictures, Gus Deardoff of The Space Program, George A. Loucas and Matthew Dean Russell of Baked Studios, and Amy Williams, who also served as the film’s production designer. Get ready to be enthralled by the gripping and haunting world of “Bad Things” as it delves into the dark depths of motherhood and psychological suspense.
