After four weeks of successful screenings, ‘Insidious: The Red Door,’ directed by Patrick Wilson, has climbed to the impressive #9 position on the domestic box office charts over the past weekend. The film has now achieved a significant milestone, becoming the highest-grossing installment in the entire ‘Insidious’ franchise. Serving primarily as a sequel to the first two ‘Insidious’ movies, ‘The Red Door’ has captivated audiences worldwide, driving its box office numbers to extraordinary heights.

As of the current writing, ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ has amassed a staggering worldwide total of $174,381,584, surpassing the previous franchise-best of ‘Insidious: The Last Key,’ which had earned $167,885,588 globally.

In the United States alone, ‘The Red Door’ has raked in an impressive $78 million, while internationally, it has secured a massive $96 million.

Over the weekend, the film added another $3 million to its domestic box office revenue.

With a production budget reported to be a mere $16 million, the fifth installment in the franchise has proven to be remarkably profitable for both Blumhouse and Sony Pictures.

The decision to focus on the Lambert family and revisit the franchise’s roots was a strategic move, as audiences flocked to theaters for the long-awaited direct continuation of the first two ‘Insidious’ movies. ‘The Red Door’ can be considered a “legacy sequel,” and it’s astonishing to realize that ‘Insidious’ nostalgia has already become a cultural phenomenon.

Looking ahead to the future of the ‘Insidious’ franchise, a spinoff has already been announced. Titled ‘Thread: An Insidious Tale,’ the film will feature Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani as the husband and wife protagonists. The plot revolves around their attempt to alter the past by using a spell to prevent the death of their young daughter. As they discover, such actions have severe consequences.

The spinoff is a collaborative effort between Screen Gems, Blumhouse, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, with Jeremy Slater (‘The Exorcist,’ ‘Moon Knight’) stepping in as the director and screenwriter for ‘Thread: An Insidious Tale.’ The film promises to add new dimensions and suspense to the ever-expanding ‘Insidious’ universe.
