To reclaim their dominance in the horror genre, Lionsgate Studios, once renowned for films like The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever, Hostel, and the Saw franchise, announced the development of a new project called “Cobweb” four and a half years ago. Now, with just one week remaining until its theatrical release on July 21st, a tantalizing clip from the film has emerged online, providing a glimpse into an uncomfortable house visit scene. Directed by Samuel Bodin, creator of the short-lived French horror series “Marianne” on Netflix, and written by Chris Thomas Devlin (known for “Leatherface”), “Cobweb” follows the story of eight-year-old Peter. Plagued by an incessant tapping sound from within his bedroom wall, Peter’s parents dismiss his fears as mere imagination. As his anxiety escalates, Peter begins to suspect that his parents are hiding a sinister secret, leaving him questioning their trust. For a child, nothing can be more terrifying.

Previously, a synopsis hinted at a boy living with abusive parents who continuously insist that the voices he hears in the walls are figments of his imagination. However, when he discovers the truth about their existence, he plots to set them free.

The film features a talented cast, including Lizzy Caplan (“Fatal Attraction”), Antony Starr (“The Boys”), Cleopatra Coleman (“Infinity Pool”), and Woody Norman (“C’mon C’mon”).

“Cobweb” was produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey, alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Andrew Childs from Vertigo serves as an executive producer, while Jonathan McCoy and Josh Fagen oversaw the project for Point Grey. Lionsgate’s Jim Miller and Meredith Wieck also played key roles in bringing the film to life. Although Seth Rogen may not be an obvious choice for producing an intense horror project, we live in a world where Kevin Smith made a horror film about a man transformed into a walrus, and where Danny McBride co-wrote three sequels to “Halloween.”
