Dracula is set to make his return to the big screen this summer in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” a new horror movie from Universal Pictures that takes inspiration from a chapter in Bram Stoker’s renowned novel. Adding to the anticipation surrounding Dracula’s blood-sucking adventure, the film’s composer has been revealed.

Emmy-winner Bear McCreary, known for his work on “The Walking Dead” and “Happy Death Day,” took to Twitter to announce that he composed the score for “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” in collaboration with visionary director André Øvredal. McCreary expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m thrilled to announce I scored #TheLastVoyageOfTheDemeter, collaborating with visionary director André Øvredal. Thanks #Amblin and #UniversalPictures for giving me the chance to write a cinematic theme for #Dracula. (A dream come true for any composer!).”

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” will arrive in theaters on August 11, 2023.

Based on a script by writer Bragi Schut that has been in development for several years, the film finally found its director in André Øvredal, known for his work on “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” Corey Hawkins, recognized for his roles in “Kong: Skull Island” and “The Walking Dead,” takes on the lead role in the film.

The story of “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is derived from a single chapter, known as the Captain’s Log, in Bram Stoker’s original novel. It follows the ill-fated journey of the Russian schooner Demeter, tasked with transporting a mysterious cargo of wooden crates from Carpathia to London. As the crew battles to survive the treacherous voyage, they are haunted each night by a terrifying presence onboard the ship. Upon its arrival near Whitby Harbour, the vessel is found abandoned, with no trace of the crew.

The cast also includes Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, with Javier Botet portraying the iconic character of Dracula.
