David Gordon Green, known for his work on “Halloween,” is set to revive The Exorcist franchise this Halloween with the highly anticipated film, “The Exorcist: Believer.” Blumhouse, the production company behind the project, has released an exclusive sneak peek image, providing fans with a first look at Gordon Green on the set of the new sequel.

The upcoming film, directed by Gordon Green and produced by Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek, will serve as the starting point for a new trilogy. The first installment of the trilogy is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 13, 2023, with Leslie Odom Jr. taking on a leading role.

Last year, some initial plot details were revealed, hinting at Odom Jr.’s character as the father of a possessed child. Desperate for assistance, he seeks out the character portrayed by Ms. Burstyn for help.

Joining the cast are Ann Dowd (“Hereditary”), Lidya Jewett (Netflix’s “Nightbooks”), Raphael Sbarge (“Gaslit”), Jennifer Nettles (“The Righteous Gemstones”), and Olivia Marcum.

The screenplay for “Believer” was written by Peter Sattler (“Broken Diamonds”) and David Gordon Green, with a story contributed by Green, Scott Teems (“Halloween Kills”), and Danny McBride (“Halloween”).

Since the 2005 release of “Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist,” an alternate version of the previous year’s “Exorcist: The Beginning,” the franchise has been absent from the big screen. Prior to that, the series included “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” in 1977 and “The Exorcist III” in 1990.

In recent years, “The Exorcist” had a short-lived television series on Fox, which cleverly existed within the same universe as the original classic and received critical acclaim.
