After 16 years since the last film in the Friday the 13th franchise and countless legal battles, Jason Voorhees is finally making a return to our screens with Crystal Lake, a new series from A24 and Peacock. Series showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (Welcome to Derry) shared an exciting update on Instagram, revealing that production offices for the show are officially open!

Kane posted a photo of the Crystal Lake production draft script and announced that pre-production has officially begun. The script was written by Kane himself and registered under Camp Blood LLC, a clear sign that the wheels are now turning for the series. Fans can expect more updates as production ramps up.

Crystal Lake will serve as an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday the 13th franchise, focusing on both Jason Voorhees and his mother, Pamela Voorhees. Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me, Freaks and Geeks) has been cast as Pamela, described as a woman who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child and turns to darkness after losing her son—Jason Voorhees.

The series is a long-awaited return for the iconic franchise, which has been dormant due to ongoing legal disputes over the rights. Now, with production underway, Crystal Lake promises to dive deep into the origins of the Friday the 13th saga and bring the franchise back to life after more than a decade of waiting. Stay tuned for more details as we learn them!
