“Remain” – Shyamalan & Sparks Reveal Cover and Plot for New Novel & Movie

M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks, the minds behind some of the most memorable stories in film and literature, are joining forces for an exciting new collaboration. Their project, Remain, will span both a movie and a novel, both of which are based on an original concept co-created by the duo.
While Shyamalan focuses on writing the screenplay for the film, Sparks is penning the novel. Though both versions will feature the same core characters and plot, each will be tailored to its respective medium.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor have been confirmed as the stars of the Remain movie, while the novel’s cover art was revealed today. Remain: A Novel is set to release on October 7, 2025, with Sparks sharing the news on Twitter: “The book, written by Nicholas [Sparks], will be available on October 7, 2025. More news on the film I’m writing and directing coming soon.”
Along with the book’s pre-order listing on Amazon, a plot synopsis has now been released, offering a glimpse into the story that has previously been kept under wraps.
Plot Synopsis:
“Remain” is described as a unique blend of supernatural mystery and emotional depth, tackling life, death, and the connections that define us. Here’s the official plot summary:
Tate Donovan, a New York architect, arrives in Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend, hoping for a fresh start after recovering from acute depression at a high-end psychiatric facility. Still grieving the loss of his beloved sister, Tate is haunted by her deathbed revelation: she could see spirits tethered to the living, a gift that runs in their family. Though Tate struggles to believe in anything beyond the tangible, his world is upended when he meets Wren, a mysterious young woman at a historic bed-and-breakfast in Cape Cod.
Tate and Wren’s immediate connection quickly blossoms into something neither of them expected. But beneath the surface of Wren’s seemingly perfect small-town life, dark secrets—jealousy, hatred, and greed—threaten their budding relationship. As Tate grows closer to Wren, he realizes that to save her from an increasingly dire fate, he must uncover the truth about her past before time runs out.
Remain explores whether love, powerful enough to transcend death, can break the boundaries of life itself. The story asks: Can love free us not just from our sorrows, but from the very limits of existence?
