Feature Film Adaptation of Josh Malerman’s ‘Decorum at the Deathbed’ in the Works

A feature film adaptation of Decorum at the Deathbed, the psychological thriller by Bird Box author Josh Malerman, is officially in the works. According to Deadline, Jenna Mattison (The Sound) has been tapped to write the script for the film, based on the novella originally released as an Audible Original in 2021.
Described as Body Heat meets Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, the story promises to be a disturbing and intense exploration of the human mind, with a twist of unexpected redemption. The narrative follows a grieving widow who begins a dangerous affair with the detective investigating a series of mutilated deer found in the woods behind her house. As their relationship grows, the detective begins to question whether she’s truly a victim of circumstance—or a calculating sociopath with dark secrets.
The search for a director is currently underway, with Malerman and his producing partner, Ryan Lewis (Bird Box), set to produce through their company, Spin a Black Yarn.
This marks the second major Malerman adaptation announced in just as many weeks, following news that Rob Savage (Host) will direct Incidents Around the House, starring Jessica Chastain.
