Ryan Gosling to Reboot ‘Killer Klowns from Outer Space’ for Amazon?

Fans of Killer Klowns from Outer Space have waited decades for the cult classic to make a proper comeback. Over the years, several attempts—including a television series, a 3D sequel, and even a SYFY Original movie—have been teased, only to fizzle out before production ever began. Aside from a recent video game, the original 1988 film has remained a one-off… until now.
That may be about to change.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Ryan Gosling is reportedly attached as a producer on a brand-new Killer Klowns project in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Sneider, who shared the scoop late last night, claims the project is being developed as a remake of the original horror-comedy.
For those unfamiliar, the original film—written, directed, and created by the Chiodo Brothers—featured a bizarre alien invasion where extraterrestrial clowns descended on a small town in a giant circus tent-shaped spaceship. Armed with popcorn guns, cotton candy cocoons, acid pies, and other absurdly imaginative weapons, the Klowns turned a quiet town into a surreal horror show.
Since Amazon acquired MGM back in 2022 and rebranded it as Amazon MGM Studios, the company has held the rights to the Killer Klowns IP, making this reboot a logical next step. And with Ryan Gosling reportedly involved, the project may finally get the greenlight fans have been hoping for.
The Chiodo Brothers have long advocated for a continuation of the franchise. Despite the original’s lackluster box office performance, its fanbase has only grown over the years, bolstered by collectibles, Halloween merch, and its constant presence on pop culture radar. In 2021, Stephen Chiodo revealed that they had developed a full-blown trilogy idea—plus a mini-series concept—exploring the aftermath of the first invasion and following surviving characters through new encounters with the Klowns.
“We’ve been trying to get the sequel going since 1988,” Chiodo said at the time. “Hollywood is just a horrible machine. They look at box office numbers—not cult followings. But we’ve got stories ready to go.”
With the property more popular than ever—and Gosling’s involvement turning heads—it seems the Killer Klowns might finally be returning to Earth. Stay tuned as we await more details on this unexpected, but thrilling development.
