‘Scary Movie’ Reboot Set for Theatrical Release in Summer 2026!

Miramax and Paramount are resurrecting the Scary Movie franchise with a new reboot, and Marlon Wayans has revealed the release date on Instagram: the film will hit theaters on June 12, 2026!

The horror spoof series was created by Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, and the brothers are back to write the new film. According to Deadline, this marks the first time in 18 years that the Wayans have come together to craft an original script for the franchise. Rick Alvarez is also on board as a writer and producer.

In a joint statement, the Wayans said, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

The first Scary Movie hit theaters in 2000, just four years after Wes Craven revived the horror genre with Scream. The film spoofed popular horror hits of the time, like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, and went on to rake in $278 million globally.

The success of the original led to five sequels between 2000 and 2013. However, as with many long-running franchises, the later films experienced diminishing returns. With the Wayans back in the fold, there’s hope that the upcoming reboot might recapture the magic of the first few installments. And with so much fresh horror content to parody, it’s sure to be a wild ride.

Stay tuned for more updates on Scary Movie 6?!
