Sony Pictures has released the first look at the upcoming Until Dawn movie adaptation, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come in this thrilling horror experience. The featurette, which includes insights from director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, Shazam), writer Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun), and star Peter Stormare, teases what promises to be an intense ride. Watch the footage above!

Until Dawn will hit theaters on April 25, 2025.

In the featurette, Sandberg reveals that the film will incorporate a unique mechanic inspired by the video game’s choose-your-own-adventure style. “One of the creative things the game did is that people make different choices and die in different ways,” Sandberg explains. “The movie has this mechanic, where things start over and they get to try again. Every time they come back to life, it’s like they’re in a new horror genre.”

The key to survival, Sandberg notes, is to make it Until Dawn.

While there isn’t enough footage yet to form a solid opinion, Sony teases that a full trailer is on the way. For now, the intriguing plot mechanics, combined with Sandberg’s proven track record in horror, have us excited. His work on Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation shows he’s more than capable of delivering a standout experience.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Until Dawn:

“One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends venture into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. While exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves hunted by a masked killer, who murders them one by one. But when they wake up, they discover they’re back at the start of the same night. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare repeatedly, each time encountering a more terrifying version of the killer. With their deaths running out, they realize the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

The film stars Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Never Have I Ever), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), and Odessa A’zion (Hulu’s Hellraiser), alongside Peter Stormare (Clown, John Wick 2), Maia Mitchell, and Belmont Cameli.

Blair Butler (The Invitation) wrote the original draft, and Gary Dauberman worked on the script. Until Dawn is described as an “R-rated love letter to the horror genre,” promising a chilling and creative new take on the slasher film.
