Mike Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Doctor Sleep, has officially been confirmed as the writer for DC’s live-action Clayface movie, which now has a release date.

Warner Bros. will debut the film on September 11, 2026.

While the project currently lacks a director, more updates are expected in the future.

No specific plot details for the Clayface movie have been revealed, but Flanagan did mention in a 2021 tweet that his vision for the character was a “horror/thriller/tragedy.” Whether this will influence the tone of the film remains to be seen.

First introduced by DC Comics in Detective Comics #40 in June 1940, Clayface is a Batman foe with the ability to shapeshift due to his clay-like form. The character has appeared in both animation and live-action adaptations, with actors like Alan Tudyk, Ron Perlman, Brian McManamon, and Lorraine Burroughs taking on the role.

The film will be produced by Matt Reeves (The Batman) and Lynn Harris through 6th & Idaho Productions. Additionally, James Gunn and Peter Safran now lead DC Studios.
