From the director of Hellhole and Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, Bartosz M. Kowalski, comes a chilling new dark horror fantasy, Night Silence. The film centers around a nursing home overrun by eerie monsters, and the recently released teaser offers a glimpse into the unsettling creatures, evoking a tone similar to Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth.
Kowalski co-wrote the screenplay alongside Pawel Maslona and Mirella Zaradkiewicz.
In Night Silence, Lucjan, a retired actor, is temporarily placed in a remote nursing home by his son while their house is being renovated. Initially reluctant, Lucjan warms to the hospitality of the staff and fellow residents. However, his peaceful stay takes a terrifying turn when a series of murders begin to plague the home. Plagued by disturbing nightmares, Lucjan must confront a grotesque and deadly threat if he hopes to survive.
The film stars Maciej Damiecki, Zdzislaw Wardejn, and Wlodzimierz Press. Tragically, Maciej Damięcki, who plays Lucjan, passed away before the film’s premiere. Kowalski shared with Variety, “Maciej played a dying actor, and unfortunately, this story turned out to be true. It was emotional for all of us.” Damięcki was posthumously honored for his performance at the Polish Film Festival, adding a poignant layer to the film.
Night Silence was recently showcased at the Sitges Film Festival, and Variety reports that leading Spanish sales agent Latido Films has secured four distribution deals for Kowalski’s latest project, bringing the film to SAARC countries, Taiwan, and Spain, with a fourth territory to be confirmed soon. While no official U.S. distribution deal has been announced yet, it’s likely just a matter of time. Kowalski’s previous horror films are currently available on Netflix.
