‘Black Sheep’ Sequel in Development with Returning Star and Director

Published

A sequel to Jonathan King’s 2006 zombie comedy Black Sheep is officially in the works, with the director returning to helm the follow-up, Black Sheep 2, Deadline reports.

King, who wrote the original film, has collaborated with Matthew Grainger and Rosie Howells on the story for the sequel. The plot will follow a new character— a young scientist who discovers a dangerous pathogen threatening the population and traces it back to her hometown, located near the remote sheep farm where the horrific events of the original film took place.

Fans of the first movie will be thrilled to know that Nathan Meister is also returning to reprise his role as Henry Oldfield, the sheep-phobic son of a farmer who uncovers his brother’s twisted experiments that transform harmless sheep into vicious, flesh-eating killers. While Meister will be joined by new faces, the sequel promises to stay true to the gory, over-the-top chaos of its predecessor.

In exciting news for fans of the first film’s impressive creature effects, Black Sheep 2 will once again collaborate with Richard Taylor’s award-winning special effects company, Wētā Workshop. Known for their work on films like Krampus, District 9, and Meet the Feebles, Wētā’s involvement ensures that the sequel will feature the same high-quality creature design and gory mayhem that made the original such a cult favorite. With King’s direction and Wētā’s expertise, the film is poised to capture the splatstick tone reminiscent of Peter Jackson’s early work, but with modern effects.

Black Sheep 2 will be produced by King and Grainger, alongside James Partridge and Samantha Braun of Terror-Fi Films. Executive producers include Richard Fletcher of Libertine Pictures, Philippa Campbell, Ari Harrison, and Jasmin McSweeney from Umbrella Entertainment.

Umbrella Entertainment will handle distribution in Australia and New Zealand, and fans can also look forward to a 4K re-release of the original Black Sheep film. Worldwide sales for the sequel will be launched by WTFilms in 2025.

Production is set to begin in Spring 2025, with more details expected to emerge as the project develops. Stay tuned!
