‘Goons’: New Orleans Horror Film from The First Purge Director to Star Chloe Bailey and Michael Rainey Jr.
Filming has begun in New Orleans on Goons, a new horror film set in Louisiana, directed by Gerard McMurray (The First Purge). Deadline reports that Chloe Bailey (The Exorcism, Swarm) and Michael Rainey Jr. (Power) will star in the film.
McMurray co-wrote Goons with Hodge K. Johnson. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the film is described as being set against the haunting backdrop of Louisiana’s cane fields and plantations, with the title potentially offering some insight into the story.
“I’m incredibly excited to venture into the horror genre with *Goons*,” McMurray told Deadline. “This film is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans and holds deep personal significance for me. Collaborating with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked underscores the strength of Black storytellers and our collaborative spirit.”
Goons is fully financed and produced by Confluential Films through its new genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions, which focuses on “bold, elevated, culturally specific horror films from creators of color.” The film is also produced in association with McMurray’s Buppie Productions.
Tommy Oliver of Confluential Films/New Fear Unlocked Productions expressed enthusiasm about the project: “I’m thrilled for audiences to experience what Gerard and I are creating with our incredible team. It’s an exciting start for New Fear Unlocked, and we’re proud to launch it with such a talented director.”
