Pascal Plante’s psychological horror film “Red Rooms” delves deep into the unsettling realms of obsession with a serial killer, as revealed in its newly unveiled trailer.

Scheduled for release by Utopia on September 6 at New York’s IFC Center, with director Pascal Plante in attendance for opening weekend, “Red Rooms” promises a blend of true crime and horror thrills. The film will subsequently roll out nationwide.

The storyline centers on Kelly-Anne (played by Juliette Gariépy), a young woman who starts each day outside the courtroom, vying for a seat at the highly publicized trial of Ludovic Chevalier. Charged with the brutal murders of three teenage girls, two of which were captured in gruesome videos sold on the dark web, Chevalier’s trial becomes an obsession for Kelly-Anne. Her fixation leads to an unlikely connection with a fellow voyeur, momentarily alleviating her isolation but intensifying her psychological descent. As she witnesses the emotional devastation of the victims’ families and navigates the boundaries between her ordinary life and her dark fixation, Kelly-Anne’s obsession escalates to disturbing new heights.

According to the press release, “Red Rooms” draws inspiration from the controversial and violent corners of the dark web known as red rooms, infamous in online urban legends. Plante’s film explores themes of modern cybersecurity, tech crimes, and society’s fascination with serial killers throughout history. It refrains from explicit imagery but delivers chilling psychological horror, portraying a fictional killer that reflects contemporary societal anxieties.
