‘Bloody Mary: Origins’ – Jeffrey Reddick, Creator of ‘Final Destination,’ Reimagines Classic Urban Legend
Jeffrey Reddick, renowned for creating the enduring horror series “Final Destination,” has joined forces with Todd Slater for a fresh interpretation of the classic urban legend in “Bloody Mary: Origins,” as reported by Deadline.
Based on Hillary Monahan’s bestseller “Mary: The Summoning,” the film centers on a group of teenage girls who stumble upon an ancient incantation that summons the real Bloody Mary. When one of them is dragged into the mirror by the terrifying entity, she finds herself trapped in the past, reliving the final days of the real Mary Worth. With time ticking away, her friends must uncover a way to rescue her from the past while confronting the malevolent Bloody Mary in the present.
Emmy-winning director Lane Shefter Bishop, known for “The Venice Murders,” will helm and produce the film under her Vast Entertainment banner.
Reddick collaborated on the screenplay with John Stancari, whose memory the film will honor following his passing in 2018 from cancer.
Speaking to Deadline, Slater commented on the project, stating, “The script brings Reddick’s signature blend of suspense, humor and horror to a completely new take on the urban legend my friends and I used to play as kids.” He added, “Much like Final Destination created a theatrical franchise that generations have enjoyed, our goal is for ‘Bloody Mary’ to generate ongoing films with the same impressive longevity.”
This announcement follows recent updates on Reddick’s involvement in “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” where he hinted at a fresh direction for the franchise, promising a true-to-form yet innovative approach.
Casting for “Bloody Mary: Origins” is currently underway, promising further developments in the near future.
